Behind the tag - MrDalekJD

Few people would be as valuable by your side during a zombie apocalypse as MrDalekJD. As a gamer he has probably managed to pick up every little gory zombie survival tip in the book which is why you want to stay close to him when the dead rise.

Behind the tag we find Jon, one of the worlds most dedicated zombie game fanatics and an entertaining creator focusing on the zombie modes of Call of Duty. We had a quick chat with British lad to find out what drives him and his story behind the tag!

Right, Who are we dealing with here?
My name is Jon Hutchinson, I’m a YouTube Gaming Creator from the UK who specialises in Call of Duty & killing the undead!

Could you tell us a bit about what your favourite games are?
I have a lot of favourite games, with many becoming firm childhood memories for me but I would have to say it’s a cross between Super Mario Galaxy or Super Smash Bros Brawl for the Nintendo Wii. After playing Super Mario Sunshine originally on the Gamecube, I was anxiously awaiting the next 3D Mario game and I was hooked on learning anything and everything about the Wii and the next Mario game. It sparked content creation for me with my focus first being a Nintendo channel covering playthroughs of Wii games!

How did it all begin, what set your carreer off?
Gaming for me began in the early 2000’s where I got a PS one as a present. A neighbour had a huge wallet full of game discs and we took it in turns playing through it all before I eventually started buying my own games! Equally it began when I got a Game Boy Advance and my love for Nintendo games began. As for content creation, It all started in 2007 when I got my first home PC. I instantly went to YouTube when the broadband got installed and slowly lost myself in the wormhole of gaming videos with walkthroughs. I bought my first capture card and starting creating videos on Nintendo Wii games, and eventually games I got for the Xbox 360. In 2019 I bought Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: World at War, and lost hundreds of hours to MP and Zombies mode... I knew once Shi No Numa (DLC 2) for Zombies dropped that this was something that I absolutely had to create content for since I was playing so much!

Is that when you realised gaming was your thing?
Yeah, Soon as I started gaming on the PS One, I knew it was my destiny!

Could you tell us the story about your gaming tag?
When I first created a YouTube account, I only made it to watch age restricted content and last minute came up with a name. I loved watching the sci-fi show “Doctor Who” and my initials “JD” fit well after it and the rest is history!

What is your best gaming memory?
There are so many, it is hard to pick a single one! Beating Halo 3 on Legendary, completing Zombies Easter Eggs first in the world... there’s a lot! I would say one of my best gaming memories was going to Treyarch Studios to check out Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 before it was revealed to the world. After following the studio and playing Black Ops games for years, it felt like a dream come true and all my efforts with YouTube had finally come to this one moment!

Getting recognition after years of hard work , how about your worst gaming memory?
My worst gaming memory has to be with Call of Duty: WWII on launch. My teammates and I had spent over 10 hours hunting for the Easter Egg on the Zombies map “The Final Reich” and managed to complete it for the first time before anyone else in the world. However, we done this with copies of the game we were sent before the game had released everywhere in the world and we completed it as it went live in the United States, leaving many players feel that we ruined the game by completing it before they had a chance to play. This was extremely unfair and left many people feeling very angry and upset. I received so much hate and abuse that I wanted to completely stop gaming and content creation, but that is all behind me now as I managed to sort the situation out.

Oh well, its easy to get lost in a good game! Are there any other hobbies that you are passionate about?
I love playing musical instruments in my spare time! I can play the drums, guitar, bass and piano..

So playing is obviously your thing, what motivates you to keep creating and pushing yourself?

Seeing the constant positive support from everyone and how I make their day better is such a good feeling. Now more than ever it is hard to keep people’s attention so the fact that people keep coming back to watch my content, it is humbling.

You are well established at this point, but what advice would you give to young creators who are just starting out?

Please don’t start with the sole focus being to get big and make money from it. It never works out like that. If you have any intentions to start, then start creating right away as there is no better time than now. Try as hard as possible to be unique with your content with thorough ideas and create content that you personally would enjoy watching and want to see.

It sounds like you are enjoying what you do! What are you up to right now and how can people follow you?

I’m playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare! You can find me on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/MrDalekJD for my COD videos, or you can chat to me @MrDalekJD on Twitter.
